about

The track, written for Greg's partner, is unashamedly a love song. While observing the passage of time, he considers the changes that have occurred in their relationship following the birth of their daughter. Backed by gently strummed acoustic guitar, upright piano and violin, Greg sings in a hushed, whispering tone, as though talking to his lover while trying not to wake the baby.

The idea for the song arose one Saturday night in 2020, as Greg and his partner struggled to soothe their daughter to sleep while their neighbours held a raucous party next door.

lyrics

There’s a party down the street
Our neighbours carrying on
Singing way out of key
At the top of their lungs

Oh, there but for
The grace of God go I
Stuck at home
Here with you
On the new
Saturday night

I used to stay out late
Push on way past the dawn
Guess I was searching for something
For someone who I could belong

Oh, there but for
The grace of God go I
Stuck at home
Here with you
On the new
Saturday night

When you found me
I was broken
My eyes so heavy
I couldn’t see
Took my hand gently
And drew me closer
Whispered something
So tenderly

Our baby’s here in my arms
Rocking to the sound of the rain
I’ve got a song in my heart
I find it hard to explain

Oh, there but for
The grace of God go I
Stuck at home
Here with you
On the new Saturday night
